BTEC Tech Award in Health and Social Care (2022) Curriculum Overview

The course is equivalent to a GCSE qualification and prepares students either for further education or for entry-level roles in the health and social care industry.

Key Skills Developed

  • Critical Thinking: Students learn to analyse different health and social care scenarios and propose suitable actions based on theoretical knowledge.
  • Communication: Clear and empathetic communication is crucial when dealing with patients or service users. This course helps build both verbal and non-verbal communication skills.
  • Practical Application: Students not only learn the theory but are also encouraged to apply their learning in practical contexts, such as planning health improvement campaigns or creating case studies.
  • Problem-Solving: Throughout the course, learners are taught to identify challenges faced by individuals and develop appropriate care plans to address those issues.
  • Ethical Understanding: Ethical considerations are embedded throughout the course, preparing students to handle sensitive situations with professionalism and care.

The BTEC Tech Award in Health and Social Care  provides a strong foundation for students who wish to pursue higher-level qualifications in health and social care, including A-levels, BTECs, and university degrees. With the growing demand for professionals in the health and social care sectors, this course equips students with practical knowledge that can be applied in entry-level roles such as healthcare assistants, social care workers, or support roles in care settings.
