September 2020 – Reopening

Week commencing 2nd September

1. Phased Re-opening

Pupils will return to school in September and our term dates for 2020-2021 can be found on our website.

The new term will commence in the following way:

Wednesday 2nd September – Years 7 and 11

Thursday 3rd September Years 7, 9 and 11

Friday 4th September Years 7, 8, 9, 10 and 11

2. Transport

The regular pick-up points will be maintained but all pupils must wear a face covering whilst on the bus.

3. Covid-19 Symptoms

It is imperative that we all continue to follow government guidance for the safety of students and staff. Please do not send your child in if they are showing any symptoms including:

  • New continuous cough or high temperature.
  • A loss of, or change in, their normal sense of taste or smell.

If you child has either of these symptoms they must not come to school.  They must self-isolate and be tested via one of the government test centres.  All other members of your household (including siblings) should self-isolate for 14 days from the first day of symptoms. Parents must inform school once test results are known. For further detail please familiarise yourself with the government websites here:

www.gov.uk/government/publications/covid-19-stay-at-home-guidance

www.gov.uk/guidance/coronavirus-covid-19-getting-tested

If your child tests negative, and if they feel well and no longer have symptoms similar to coronavirus, they can stop self-isolating.

If your child tests positive, they should follow the ‘stay at home’ guidance above and must continue to self-isolate for at least 7 days from the beginning of their symptoms. A pupil should only return to school if they no longer have symptoms. If a high temperature persists, self-isolating should continue until their temperature returns to normal. Other members of the household should continue self-isolating for the full 14 days.

4. School Meals

As outlined in previous communications the ‘Meal Deal’ option is now £2.30. Water fountains continue to be out of use and therefore pupils should bring their own water to school in a reusable bottle.

5. ParentPay

We strongly encourage you to use ‘ParentPay’ for parents to pay for school meals and other resources such as replacement pupil planner, equipment and educational visits.  Activation letters for all Year 7 pupils plus any other pupils who require this service will be mailed out on Wednesday 2nd September. This will support our move towards not handling cash on site.

6. Uniform and Equipment

Pupils should come equipped for school with their bag, pen, pencil and ruler.  Pupils are expected to return to school in full uniform in September. When pupils have PE, it is important that they come fully prepared with their PE kit.  All pupils will be provided with an individual pencil case with a black and purple pen, pencil, ruler and a white board marker.  If a pupil misplaces their equipment it must be replaced at their own cost. No equipment can be borrowed during this period.

7. Free School Meals

If you have had a change in circumstances that may make you eligible for Free School Meals please contact The RCBC Children & Families Service support webpage which has helpful information and the contact numbers for local Family Hubs are 07500606851 (Greater Eston area) and 07970371685 (Redcar area).

8. Face coverings

Further to government guidelines regarding face-coverings in school, please be advised of the following: Pupils may bring a face covering into school that can be worn in communal areas and when transitioning between lessons.  Face coverings must be either washable or disposable.  Pupils must bring in a plastic bag to place their face-covering in when not in use for hygiene reasons.
